Took this out of The Charlotte Observer years ago. I ran across it and scanned it in awhile back and ran across it again today. Might have to squint to read it, but worth reading.
What’s in a name?
I don’t really care what teams choose to call themselves. What offends me is the political correctness we have in this country and this paper buys right into it. How about no more ads in your newspaper using the term “gringo”? Your “Go Gringo” advertisement in this past Saturday’s paper was offensive to me. Yes, I know, you just $ell the ad space and take in the dollars.
What’s that you say? Gringo is not an offensive term! Well, if I say it is, then it must be…so no more “Gringo” ads.
Independent Contractors for others, but not with the Charlotte Observer
So, the Observer decree’s carriers are independent contractors, but those hired in the building trades are probably not and are being taken advantage of. What’s the difference? If a carrier does not show up for their appointed round on a regular basis, do you keep them on as a carrier?
You’re never too young to plan for your retirement, because retirement age comes faster than you think.
Stop Talking and Listen
Just heard ABC & CBS have decided not to have any other opinions on their programs about “global warming” if it does not point to “man made” global warming. If true, how can they call themselves news organizations?
Here is my take on “global warming”:
SPRING – Warm
SUMMER – Hot (Sometimes really hot)
FALL – Cool
WINTER – Cold (Sometimes really cold)
I don’t deny that weather patterns do change, but to believe “man” is responsible has never been settled, and it never will be unless those who are yelling the loudest stop yelling and listen to other opinions. They then must deal in facts and not computer model theories.
Where Have All the Leaders Gone?
With all of the news about government handouts and subsidized healthcare, welfare benefits, food stamps, etc. it makes me wonder where our country is headed.
We hear stories of people not working because they take in more from government benefits than when they have real jobs.
Now we hear the government is helping us work less in order to have more leisure time for ourselves. If we work less who will pay taxes to support those on government handouts?
I think it is another political party spin on more big government mistakes.
Sometimes I wonder about those of us who were born in the late 1940’s and 1950’s. The “baby boom” generation (1946 – 1964). My generation. It seems to me that a lot of us are very selfish. I know that is a harsh word, but we came to adulthood during the sixties. It was the “me generation”. It was a time when television was becoming popular. Advertisers told us “do it” “you’re worth it”, and we believed them. This is the same generation who is running our country right now. We don’t seem to have great leaders anymore. We have lifetime politicians.
Where have our real leaders gone? Leaders like President Kennedy and President Reagan. Yes, they were politicians, but they were also great leaders. You may not have agreed with everything they said, but they knew how to lead people and instill pride in its citizens.
